The University of Kent Student Chapter of the Optica Worlwide Society (formerly Optical Society of America) was founded on the 28th November 2011. It is the third Optica chapter created by post-graduate optics students in the United Kingdom.
Optica generously provides us yearly funding and grants for invited lecturers, scientific workshops, symposia, professional development and promoting Optical Physics to the young minds. Each year a chapter officer is also awarded a travel grant to attend the student leadership workshop, which is co-located with the OSA Annual Meeting, Frontiers in Optics, where they have the opportunity to attend a top conference and exchange ideas with other student chapter leaders from around the world. Additional benefits include substantial meeting registration and subscription discounts, two free scientific magazine subscriptions and 50 free Optics InfoBase downloads (articles from prestigious journals like Optics Letters and others).
We encourage all the undergraduate or postgraduate students who are interested in joining our chapter to contact us by email, or just pop into the Photonics Building, room Jennison GF.04.

We are part of the Applied Optics Group at the University of Kent. It wouldn't be possible to manage the chapter without the infinite help of AOG. Thanks to Prof Adrian Podoleanu to allow some of his students to administrate the Optica Student Chapter.
